Biography

Lori Shook is a pioneer in the coaching world: she jumped into the budding field of coaching in the mid-1990s, earned the designation of Master Certified Coach by 2001 and has been coaching leaders and training coaches for over 20 years.

Lori was a driving force for the expansion of coaching around the world as she helped spread coaching across North America then into EMEA and also into corporations. She significantly contributed to the creation of quality scalable programs and training excellence for three different coach training schools: The Coaches Training Institute (CTI), Performance Consultants International (PCI) and CRR Global - the provider of ORSC™ systems coaching.

She has also served as the Director of Training at CoachWise in Poland. She has worked closely with pioneers in the coaching world: Laura Withworth, Tim Gallwey and Sir John Whitmore. Design and delivery master.

While her design abilities are highly appreciated, Lori’s talent for training coaches is even more highly prized: she combines a pragmatic approach to personal development with deep knowledge of coaching skills and neuroscience. This depth of understanding, along with her sense of lightness and ease, enables her to provide coaches uplifting, fun and transformative experiences.

Lori helps coaches understand the connections between the brain, human behaviour and coaching tools. This equips them to provide transformational coaching experiences with more confidence and authority, particularly with more analytical clients. Lori is also passionate about developing other coaches, new and experienced, supporting them to do their own work and stay committed to the transformative aspect of coaching.

She’s a strong believer that as coaches, we need to keep ourselves fresh and awake so that we can serve our clients well. She has been an important participant in several coaching communities; her London based Topups (personal development for experienced coaches) are generally sold out. Scientific approach Lori is a pioneer in integrating neuroscience into coach training. Consistent with her applied science degrees and experiences, Lori found it natural to apply neuroscience to the world of coaching and personal development.

As research was released, Lori immediately started using neuroscience to explain how and why coaching tools work. She has since become a leading figure teaching coaches globally to include neuroscience in their coaching and has equipped them with the skills and tools that they need to take their clients - especially those more analytical clients - on transformational journeys.

It’s normal for us to get stuck as we progress towards a goal or dream and it can be frustrating to witness our clients suffering this fate. Imagine a client who sets an inspiring goal but doesn’t move forward with it: they are clear about the outcome and the steps to get there, they have the capacity to move forward but something gets in the way and stops them in their tracks.

We know it’s some kind of fear stopping them, but how do we help them identify that fear and free themselves so they can move forward? During this keynote, Lori will introduce essential neuroscience principles and share why our innate wiring creates hesitance and resistance in us, even when we really want to move forward. She will share a coaching tool that will help you take your clients on a powerful introspective journey and give them a way to break free from the emotions that stop them.

1. The brain is wired to maintain stability, security, and relationships with others. This playing-it-safe dynamic can stop us in our tracks and prevent movement towards our goals and dreams.
2. We can change our wiring by interrupting our natural instincts, changing our thinking patterns and moving consciously and intentionally beyond the resistance.
3. We can tap into other resources in the brain which will help us break free from the emotional brain’s resistance and fear.

Biography

This session builds on the Pre-Summit keynote and demo sessions: Rewire your brain to get unstuck. We humans are social beings and our brain is a social brain. We are wired to exist in relationship to other people and it is natural for us to want to belong to a tribe, a family system, a community, team or other group. But our wiring doesn’t automatically create a harmonious social system. While we have the capacity and wiring for positive collaboration and collective effort, we are also wired to compare, compete and defeat others.

We have a choice about whether we tap into our collaborative or competitive nature, but not everyone recognizes that choice nor do people really understand how to make that choice. In this session, Lori will take us on a journey of what happens in the brains of individuals as they interact in a team and she will show us how we can work with those dynamics. She will offer an approach of how to support a team to become more collaborative and help the team recognise, normalise and manage their innate destructive tendencies.

  1. The brain is a social brain; it’s wired for both collaboration and competition.
  2. Understanding the brain’s natural responses, increases our empathy and understanding of others; this builds trust and connection within a team.
  3. As a coach or leader, we can point team members’ attention to what is possible and help them tap into their collaborative nature, while taming their destructive tendencies.
